Goodmorning friends,

Today is my first time for blogging, so we shall see how this works.

Today's topic is basic computer maintenance: Things every PC owner should know.

When your PC begins to run slow, then you say your PC needs help.  The truth is your PC needs you to understand basic things about it.  Let's say it together, "My PC needs me"!  This is the truth.  Over the next few weeks, I will be giving basic information and showing, how you; even you can help maintain your computer in a better shape than most people.

Today's lesson is on Scan disk and defrag or defragmentation, these 2 programs are built into any windows PC. The easiest way to find them is to open the start menu and click on my computer or this computer alternatively; open a file and on the left side find this PC for 10 users, and open this up.  Now look for your main hard drive (usually the 'C' drive and right click on it  this will bring up a dialog box, at the bottom of this box it will have the word properties.  Select properties.

Now you will see a small box with tabs at the top which says OS (C:) properties.  In the middle of this is a small box that says Disk Cleanup.  This is a clickable box.  Click it.
This will look through your PC and tell you about unnecessary junk files that can be removed without harm to your computer.  These files just slow your machine down.  Soo removal is key.

Once that is complete. Then select the tools tab. widow should look like this:

First you will need to click the error checking box it will bring up a box of things to do and allow you to choose to fix items found.  It will then tell you it needs to do this when you aren't on your machine soo when you go to bed just reboot and let it work.  If this option has never been run on your machine and you HAVE owned it a while it may take most of the night to finish this task, though I have seen it take 2 to 3 days or just a few minutes depending on how long it has been.  Once this has been set up and before you reboot move down to the optimize button and select it.  This will activate the defragmentation program.

What happens is this, very simply: when you open a program its like looking at books in the library.  You take it off the shelf, you move to a desk and begin to read.  When your through you close the book but leave it n the desk for the librarian to put back, some time we even leave several items spread out.  This program acts like the librarian, and puts it back on the shelf along with the extra maps and pictures or extra materials necessary to understand the book.  Defragmentation takes all the files that have been spread out and coalates them back together in one place for easy access.

Based on this information if you use your pc for Facebook and  FB games and checking emails then this maintanece needs only done once a month.  If your a gamer and game nearly everyday plus check email, weather and your blogs then you probably should do this once a week.

Hope this has been helpful.  I will come out with new tips in future blogs.  If you need more help please contact me directly using my email blackwidow.therealr3d@gmail.com and i will assist you on a one by one bassis.
